Recommended “Extra” Equipment for Boat Rigging
We recommend that you bring a sweep kit (a.k.a. wrap kit) containing the tools you need to get your boats off rocks or out of other predicaments. It pays to bring someone who is adept at river rescue. Basic ingredients include:
-
Long static rope – at least 100 feet.Combining multiple throw bags works, but is considerably more difficult to use, and the rope in throw bags is usually dynamic (stretchy).Z-drags are most effective when set up with static (non-stretchy) rope.
-
Webbing for anchors: a couple 15’ lengths of 1” tubular webbing.
-
Prussik Loops: at least two loops of 4-7 mm perlon sized appropriately to grab your long static rope (half or less of the diameter) in 4-6’ lengths.
-
Pulleys and at least 4 oval locking carabiners. You may substitute oval carabiners for pulleys, but it adds friction to the system.
-
PRO boats do not include “grab” lines, so bring your own rope if you want to add these to your PRO boat.
